Graffiti is a very interesting form of art and the individuals expression. It often can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the place in which the art work is placed. Graffiti has a large variety of images in which range from words and sayings to propaganda. Therefore graffiti can represent many different cultures from political to artistic. The wide range of what graffiti represents is what I find to be so important about this specific art form. I connected all of these images together because I think they connect most of the topics covered from this course.Image 1: BRK- Street Art London. The importance of this form of art is that it usually is a representation of an artists feelings. Artists who do graffiti on streets are often trying to get their feelings heard. It is an important image because it is an expression of the artist and can be interpreted in mant different ways. Image 2: Unknown, by Museum of Public Art, Belin. This painting is a great representation of realism. The image makes the wall look as if a person is coming out of it. The person is assumed to be some sort of super hero who is fighting evil. The form of art is portrayed in a form in which the viewer can understand the image as it looks like something seen in a museum. Image 3: Obey, by Shepard Fairey. The image of President Obama is one that is all over mass media. This image being painted on a wall is a form of propaganda and a use of power. It shows that Obama is in charge and is an image that shows he is there to fight. Instead of using modern technology like posters or billboards the artist used graffiti as a unique way to get his message heard. Obama therefore is the main face of this image and therefore it can act as a form of propagation to get people to trust and support him. Image 4: ``Chance Street Mural`` by MadC. The title of this image explains what the graffiti art is supposed to represent. Although the image has a title it still can be interpreted in different ways. This art can be classified as graffiti which in this individual picture is also a representation of abstract art. Also, the image as similar to image 1 can be seen as the artist trying to get their message heard. The message in this image is about getting a chance, for the artist this chance is most likely to get their art seen. Image 5: Open Walls Baltimore 1 by Katey Truhn, Jessie Unterhalter. This image is very similar in colour and type to the previous image. The difference in this is that the graffiti is placed on a pavement ground in what looks to be a park. As people look where they are walking this art work is unmissable to those who view this art. This is a great strategy that the artist has. Also, the focal point of the image is of the tree that is centered in the art. Therefore the area is a nice are for people to go view as the art work is beautiful and natural. Lastly, it does not follow the advancement in technology, rather than art work on a wall or a billboard this art was placed in a unique location. It also allows for a challenge of perspective which is why this image seems to be the most important image in the gallery.
