Women are an extremely important part of our society, and our history. There have been many women to shape the outcome of our world today and, along with that, many iconic paintings of women. This art gallery highlights some well created artworks from the years that focus specifically on women.

This painting was done by Paul Gauguin in 1891. The woman in the picture was a representation of what he saw on his visit to Tahili. “She was not pretty – at least not by European standards..". The clothing painted is the woman's choice of clothing. Notice the organic lines and vibrant colors to display beauty.

The colors in this picture are very bright. This picture was created to represent Znamierowski's ironic view of the Lithuanian feminist artistic group. The woman in the back is meant to represent an older woman who fought diligently for women's rights, while the two in the front represent today's feminist movement and the violent, destructive nature of it.

This painting resembles a woman named Stephen Lawrence. This woman was a victim of murder do to racism. The artwork has specific proportions that is much like other portrayals of Africans and Native Americans. The other part to this painting shows it in the darkness. In that picture you can see the words RIP Stephen Lawrence.

This oil painting, done by Togo Seiji is a representation of his acquaintance with the European women that started entering Japan in the late twenties. The soft colors later became a part of his style that grew very popular in Japan. The woman in the painting is a "Modern Girl" which is what they called the European woman who entered Japan wearing their western clothes.

This soft looking painting by Julio romero de Torres was done during his period of ascension. The painting depicts very similar women in two different positions. The one on the right in the classy dress is struggling to get the attention of the one on the left. The buildings are laid in the background with perfect balance.
Young Woman at Her Toilette, Giovanni Bellini, 1515, From the collection of: Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien
This picture is special because Giovanni Bellini normally refused to personally paint mythological themes. However, he made this portrait of a woman in 1515, a year before his death, as an exception. The woman is sitting on a bench covered in carpet and behind her you can see the view of a Venetian landscape which adds great depth to this painting.
Woman with Flowers is a beautiful piece drawn by Diego Rivera using pastels. The organic lines were used very well as you can see in the face of the woman, along the nose and jawline specifically. The value of this picture is low but there is more light coming from the bottom left of the painting. This sort of gives the piece some darkness.

This is a very beautiful piece painted by Karlis Huns. The painting shows a woman with rough hair dressed in loose clothing with a plaid skirt, holding up a tambourine. The depth added to the picture by the ever fading background is magnificent. The added surroundings like the shrubs on the side and the colors give the piece an nice sense of unity.

This painting includes some slightly jagged line work along with very vibrant colors. The work was created by Fyodor Fyodorovich Fyodorovsky. The sketch is of a female costume that was to be used in the opera Prince Igor. Fyodorovysky did many paintings from the Bolshoi Theatre and his name is completely attached to the theater.
A Frankish Woman and Her Servant, Jean-Etienne Liotard, 1750, From the collection of: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
This art piece, done by Jea-Etienne Liotard was completed during his extreme fascination with the Turkish culture, during his stay in Constantinople from 1738-1742. It shows a woman in clothing, described as "frankish" standing with a younger companion holding various items. the proportions between the two people suggest that the woman on the right is older and/or has authority over the other.
