Bear effigy pipe

This long, cylindrical pipe form was carved into a bear head effigy from steatite, which is dark grayish brown in color. Four limbs are engraved in low relief in a highly schematic, zigzag form, and the artistic style is typical of the Copena culture of Tennessee.
