This is the Atlas of charts accompanying four volumes presenting the official record of the La Perouse expedition. The expedition departed from France in 1785 and arrived in Petropavlovsk, Russia in September 1787. It then sailed to Botany Bay and encountered the British 'First Fleet', bringing the first Europeans to settle in Australia. In March 1788, La Perouse journeyed north-west into the Pacific never to be seen or heard of again; his ships were wrecked off Vanikoro where they remained undetected until 1827.
