Series of digital images acquired from still and video footage taken during the 2014 archaeological survey of the Australian submarine AE2. AE2 was intentionally scuttled by its crew in the Sea of Marmara on 30 April 1915. Its wreck site was discovered in 1998 by a Turkish research team led by Selçuk Kolay, OAM. The 2014 expedition, which was directed by Project Silent Anzac, acquired video footage, still photographs, and sonar imagery of the submarine’s interior conning tower and control room through the use of a drop camera and remotely operated vehicle.

Here, the interior of AE2’s conning tower is illuminated by a remotely-operated camera system inserted into the open conning tower hatch.

Project Silent Anzac was funded as part of the Commonwealth’s Anzac Centenary Program 2014-2018.
