An elegant, summer kimono made from diaphanous Echigo jōfu. This cloth is made one bolt at a time from hand-plied ramie threads in the warp and weft, often incorporating tie-resist dyed warp and weft kasuri patterns. Months and months of painstaking labor by a number of specialized artisans go into the production of each kimono-length bolt. Courtesy of the Echigo Jōfu Preservation Guild.
