Kali. Headrest. Carved from kau (wood) consisting of a long and cylindrical rest with squat U-shaped yava ni kali (legs) lashed to its underside at both ends with braided magimagi (coconut sennit). A gummy substance covers the magimagi visible under the legs. Each yava ni kali sits on an oval base. Small and circular ivory inlay in the side ends of the cylindrical rest; one ivory inlay disk centred in the side of the rest, while the other has eight pieces of the inlay circle around the perimeter of the surface with a piece of inlay centred in the middle of the surface. Top of the rest has three circular inlays, one in centre and one towards each end. The kali is dark brown in colour with the off-white colour of the inlay. Smooth and polished surface.
