A landscape painting titled, Etosha Waterhole by the Namibian artist Zakkie Eloff (1925-2003) composed in 1992. The landscape depicts a typical southern African waterhole with wildlife such as Springbok, Zebra and Gnu within the scene. The artwork was acquired in 1992 at a Zakkie Eloff exhibition by the University of Pretoria. This is the right side of a triptyque on the Etosha Waterhole, the two other parts of the triptyque were purchased by two of the Principals of the University, Prof Danie Joubert and Prof Flip Smit. The last time this work was exhibited as a complete triptyque was in 2004 at a Zakkie Eloff retrospective exhibition held at the University. Short Biography: Zacharias (Zakkie) Eloff was born in 1925 in Namibia. He studied under the South African artist, Walter Battiss in High School and later at the Pretoria Technical College and later completed his studies at the University of Pretoria. From 1962 to 1968 he worked as a game ranger in the Etosha National Park in Namibia, where his love of painting the unique desert Namibian landscape began. In 1969, Eloff settled in the Eastern Transvaal with his wife Rene Eloff and where Eloff passed away in 2003.
