The painting depicts the portrait of a noblewoman with dark hair, styled in an elegant coiffure featuring a central bun adorned with a diadem and encircled by delicate yellow beads. She has thick eyebrows, brown eyes, and a graceful expression. The woman is dressed in a stunning 19th-century blue gown, embellished with white lace ruffles at the chest and frilled sleeves. Her neck, arms, and fingers are adorned with exquisite gold jewelry crafted with remarkable attention to detail.
She wears long earrings, a necklace secured at the neck with a wide black velvet ribbon, wide bracelets on both forearms, a red-stone ring on the ring finger of her right hand, with which she holds a delicate yellow rose, and two rings on the index and ring fingers of her left hand. The woman is seated on an elegant Biedermeier-style chair with reddish-brick upholstery, her right hand resting casually on the armrest of the chair, and her left hand placed on the folds of her dress.
The subject has been identified as Maria Veturia Dăian, married to Vlad, whose husband came from a wealthy Romanian family owning mines in Roșia Montană. It is known that the chair depicted in the painting was part of the furnishings of their home in Orăștie, where the painter Mișu Popp traveled specifically to create this portrait.
