The subject has been identified as Maria Veturia Dăian, married to Vlad, whose husband came from a wealthy Romanian family owning mines in Roșia Montană. It is known that the chair depicted in the painting was part of the furnishings of their home in Orăștie, where the painter Mișu Popp traveled specifically to create this portrait.
