The National Company, from 1887, acquired several vehicles for exclusive transportation of goods, distributing them between the Tua and Dão lines. In general, two short and narrow axes stand out as common characteristics. Numbered in separate series, the vehicle on display was purchased for the Dão line, integrating the series Lf 401 to 406 in the CN.
After 1947, the Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (CP) managed a total of 35 flat wagons on the Tua, some of them a legacy from the time of the CN, others from other lines. The vehicles were gathered, grouping the lots of CN, Tua and Dão in series LEf 1277-1286.
The open seat in one of the extremities stands out, where the brakeman was seated completely exposed to weather conditions.
The brakeman worked according to the signals transmitted by the drivers, through a strict code of signals, a common procedure in the wagons with manual brakes.
