The Nagasaki family, who served the Matsue clan in the Edo period (1603-1868), has been using rattan to make Tea Ceremony utensils such as suimori (charcoal-scuttles) since the late Edo period. Fukutaro Nagasaki (2nd), started weaving hanamusubi using rattan.
