This construction project, at the heart of a consolidated urban fabric with medieval roots, sought to resize and reinsert the cathedral (Sé) building on the urban scale. The aim was to change the perception of this monument, which was created by the demolitions of 1940. The torre (tower), designed by Fernando Távora (1923-2005) and built between 1995 and 2002 on the ruins of the medieval town hall, stands in direct confrontation with the Cathedral, and its contemporaneity, above all, underlines the architect’s intention to honor the city.
