Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares de Sevilla
Sevilla, Spain

Section of a bovine horn, with cork seals fixed with brass tacks to close the ends. It has an opening in the centre covered by a dark wooden plug. It is decorated with incisions of geometric, floral and animal motifs. The mouth is lozenge-shaped. It was carved to smooth the surface of the horn. These horns were used to hold liquor and was part of the articles owned by shepherds and hunters. Until the 1950s they were commonly found in mountain areas. Because of its decoration, this example is related with those documented in the Salamanca-León area.
