A Portrait of a Boy

This painting remains one of the most perceptive works in the history of portraying children, and was created by one of the greatest French painters. Its secular Realism differed fundamentally from the already flourishing trend of French Rococo, while the unpretentious form, simple and at the same time refined in its colouring, makes it comparable to paintings by Johann Vermeer van Delft.
