The studio of Pieter Brueghel the Younger produced around 130 versions of the “Winter Landscape”, which confirms the enormous popularity of this picture. The original version is considered to be the landscape painted in 1565 by the artist’s father, Pieter the Elder. The birds, concentrated on finding food, lost their sense of danger, just like the ice skaters carelessly skating nearby. The painting represents a metaphor of human existence, calling for reasonability and alertness.
