Adhemar Ferreira da Silva arrived at the Olympic Games of Melbourne 1956 as one of the favorites to the gold medal in the triple jump, as in Helsinki 1952 had risen to the highest place of the podium - with the right to record worldwide. In the fight for the medal, however, a strong toothache almost took it out of the dispute. A trip to the dentist solved the problem and Adhemar shone once more, conquering the gold and the Olympic bicamponate, the first of a Brazilian. The values that marked Adhemar, such as technical efficiency, sportiness and collective spirit, inspired the creation of the trophy with his name, delivered annually by COB at the Olympic Brazil award.
