Photograph of Albert Pannell, a 102-year-old man formerly enslaved at Red Hill. He was photographed during the Southside Soil Conservation Service’s (SCS) “Miracle Day” at Red Hill on October 18, 1950. Miracle Day brought together officials and land conservation experts from around the state. The event was organized by the SCS as a demonstration project to rehabilitate 250 acres of neglected farmland at Red Hill.
