Theropods are now thought to be direct ancestors of modern birds, with whom they share many anatomical features. Among dinosaurs, the dromaeosaurs are the closest relatives of birds. Both groups went their separate evolutionary ways in the late Jurassic period. Whether allosaurs had feathers, like theropods found in China - remains a matter of debate.
