Having recorded all of Beethoven, all of Mozart and all of Haydn, as well as Schubert, Brahms, Smetana and Dvořák, they became the equivalent of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau for the Austro-German vocal repertoire or Wilhelm Kempff for the Austro-German piano repertoire: a symbol of excellence in chamber music for three decades since 1950.
