Born into a family wholesaling crude drugs, Yoshino Goun was a theatergoer and asked Hamamatsu Utakuni, a playwright, to compile this set of scrapbooks focused on kabuki materials. This set of scrapbooks contains totally 40 books, including 36 main books, 4 supplements and 2 separate volumes, and the total number of materials is around 2,800. Because Goun was a passionate fan of Nakamura Utaemon III, it has substantial materials related to the latter. However, it also contains materials from men’s kabuki in 17th century until Bunsei era, and there are even some materials only existing in this set. It is the only one comprehensive documentation of materials on kabuki in Kyoto-Osaka region.
