This object of art is a meaningful combination of two cultural icons. A nugget of amber, the ancient solidified resin obtained in this case from the Baltic sea, has been considered the symbol of seaside Gdańsk for centuries, and even today amber souvenirs are a tourists' favourite. Mickey Mouse is a cult classic of the western world, the essence of popular culture and, along with all things Disney, a reference point in most forms of amusement and entertainment. A bold combination of old and new, but both very much related to the expectations of a modern-day viewer, the amber nugget with Mickey Mouse ears made of kitschy pink plastic is a surprising, critical exhibit at the Museum of Amber, where it serves as an example of a contemporary work in this medium.
