This thangka depicts Amitabha surrounded by Avalokitesvara, Mahasthamaprata (or Vajrapani) and the other Eight Great Bodhisattvas. A distinctive feature of this thangka is that instead being seated in front of a bo tree or pavilion, Amitabha is backed by an expanse of blue sky dotted with clouds, and this lends a dreamlike quality to the entire work. Mt. Sumeru and Milaraspa are shown in the lower left.
On the back of this thangka there is an inscription in dbu-med script, and it states that through the merit gained by donating this painting of Sukhavati a person by the name of Blo-bzang-dbang hoped to live a long and healthy life in this world, be reborn in Sukhavati after death, and eventually attain enlightenment.
