This ancient-looking oil amphora with green glazing on the inside were produced in the south of Europe. Amphoras like this were served as standardised transport containers for olive oil, wine, olives, plums, capers, beans, chick peas, honey, lard, and tar on Spanish war or trading ships. By this way, they also reached northern Europe, were they are attested in port towns along the coast, like Emden, Bremen, and Hamburg as archaeological finds from both land and river. The oil amphoras on display here have a spherical or conical corpus.
