Zaragoza, Spain

Fragment of the edge, neck and start of the body of an amphora, it has a thickened edge with a triangular section, under which a protruding ring is located, from which a handle, thick and ovoid in section, emerges. On the inside of the mouth there is a marked recess to support the tape. A soft molding is located at the base of the neck, above the handle support area.

It has a refined ceramic paste that is light gray in color at its core (Munsell 5YR 7/1) and pinkish in color in the area closest to the outside, similar to the tone of the slip (Munsell 7.5 YR 7/4); the degreaser is abundant, of medium and fine size, consisting of granitic inclusions, with angular fragments of feldspar and quartz, sheets of yellow mica, along with other light and dark brown inclusions; A pinkish beige slip covers the outer surface, on which the degreaser remains visible.

The piece was located on the lot at Sepulcro Street, 1-15, on February 1, 1991, in the "Pozo 48" sector. The piece corresponds to the CoT Tarraconense 3 form, this form is represented in the production centers of El Vilarenc (Calafell, Tarragona) and La Fornaca (Vilassar de Dalt, Barcelona). It is also present in Celsa and El Palao in contexts of abandonment. It could have contained wine or salted foods.
