This box of satin walnut wood was carved by K. F. Gottschalg, a wounded soldier at the Sophienhaus nursing-home in Weimar. It was bought in 1917 by Beate von Eckermann, who visited the hospital to see her sister Margaretha Busch, and given to Wilhelmina von Hallwyl in September the same year.
