When the demand for motorcycles slowly declined in the mid-1950s, the Nuremberg motorcycle manufacturer Zündapp decided to compensate for the falling sales with the construction of an automobile. However, there was no success. Between 1957 and 1959, just under 7,000 copies of the Janus rolled off the assembly line.
