Based in Rwamagana district of the Eastern province of Rwanda, Ilibagiza Angella is a collage artist; using paper to create art, a technique that she was taught by Crista Uwase. A feminist advocate of women's rights. Ilibagiza's work is inspired by issues affecting women and girls and her interactions with people; and explores themes such as socio-cultural rules and values created by men and placed on women and girls, male violence against women and girls.
"I use art to advocate for women's rights and campaign against VAWG, particularly femicide. Following the murder of an acquaintance, I have embarked on a journey to document femicide victims in Rwanda and make artworks bearing their names with the purpose of honoring and visibilizing them, highlighting the magnitude of femicide in Rwanda, raising public awareness about femicide and calling for collective action to end femicide in Rwanda" says Ilibagiza.
