The society of El Argar was organised in economic and political territories with an extension that ranged from 50 to 100 square kilometers, each with a population of between 1000 and 2000 people.

During the 700 years of history of this society, a remarkable demographic increase took place. In the lower course of the Aguas river, a land controlled by the settlement of Gatas, there was a population increase of nearly 40 %. The social weight of the reproduction was mainly carried by women.

Only a quarter of the population actually lived at the central settlement from which the economy was organised. Most workers lived in farms and hamlets spread along the lowlands. Although there are no testimonies related to the life of the most humble people, their work was the basis of the Argar State.
