The scene is alluring with its silent atmosphere and courtly elegance of the half-length figures of the young men. This biblical scene was painted by Lorenzo Lippi, a Florentine poet and painter who worked for, among others, the Medici family. He was one of the first painters, influenced also by Artemisia Gentileschi, to adopt the chiaroscuro effect used by Caravaggio.
