“Some consider him an imposter. Academics try to provide a scientific explanation. The devout simply say: faith is the cause of the cure. For those who have traveled to Congonhas do Campo, Minas Gerais to seek treatment, and for those who believe in his healing powers, Arigó is their last hope." (article published in June of 1967, with text by Roberto Freire)

In March of 1967, Andujar traveled to Congonhas do Campo, Minas Gerais, to accompany the activities of José Pedro de Freitas, known as Zé Arigó. People from all over Brazil and neighboring countries flocked to the medium/faith healer to treat a variety of illnesses, in consultations lasting less than 60 seconds. With no medical training, Arigó made headlines for the operations he performed, sticking a knife in between patients' eyelids and eyeballs, a procedure which Andujar documented cinematically.
