The name "Arri" came from the family names of August Arnold and Robert Richter, who founded Arnold & Richter Cine Technik in 1917. Arri developed Kinarri 35, a lightweight camera, and later upgraded it with the spinning reflex miror shutter and called it Arriflex 35. It has a three-lens turret. After World War Two, the camera was used widely in studios and real locations due to the ease of film loading. Over 17,000 units were manufacturered and the model was discontinued in 1978. Thai filmmakers after the 16mm era (early 1970s) relied almost entirely on this camera.
