Arthur Nikisch in the old Philharmonie

In 1913, Deutsche Grammophon created a sensation when it released, on four double-sided 78s, the first complete recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C minor, an honour that was entrusted to the Berlin Philharmonic and its charismatic conductor Arthur Nikisch.
