The sculpture is a bigger version made of bronze with some added details of a terracotta iconographic model made by Crocetti eleven years before, back in 1937. This original version was part of the XXI Biennale of Venice and it has been bought by the National Education’s Ministry for six thousands lire.
The portrayed girl hasn’t an ideal beauty , she’s not similar to the classic Venus coming out of the water nor she has the charm of the biblical Bathsheba whose sight was capable of make King David falling in love with her; she has a natural solidity; her clumsy pudency shows a popular dimension as well as her strong limbs make us think about the work in the fields and they are the representation of a non-heroic naturalism in its simple serenity.
