Between - Aviv La Kalif

Aviv La Oz Kalif is the winner of the Contemporary Craft category. Aviv is a Ceramics & Glass BFA graduate from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem and based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Aviv’s work Between examines the void created between ceramic bodies and viewers, through space and sound. Ceramic bodies serve as resonating bodies which vary in size and shape and consequently alter the sound in the space. They are a musical translation of a language of the forms within which Aviv works.

The sound in the space is a recording of the sounds made by the ceramic bodies themselves alongside a song Aviv wrote and performed. The song touches on pain, longing, memory, and emptiness - like the ceramic bodies themselves.
