Blowing up the colonnades on the Zeppelin Grandstand did not go as planned. The first attempt hardly brought down a single column, and the second try blasted stones onto the grandstand steps, damaging them. The Zeppelin Field had been one of the main settings for the Nazi Party Rallies from 1933 to 1938, and some members of the public viewed the explosions as an attempt to dispose of unwelcome memories in Nuremberg.
