Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The vase dates from 1812 and would have belonged to Napoleon I, as it has its emblems: the initial "N" wrapped in a wreath of laurel and oak and the golden bees. It was an official government gift from France to the President of the Republic, Marshal Hermes da Fonseca, on the occasion of his visit to Paris in 1910. It was later purchased by Getúlio Vargas and donated to the Museu Histórico Nacional to be part of the Sala Getúlio Vargas.
