Fan with painted and varnished ivory sticks and guards.
The single paper leaf is decorated on the recto with a hand coloured print showing Prince Charles Edward Stewart surrounded by classical gods; attributed to Jacobite engraver Robert Strange.
The fan was produced around the time of the Jacobite Rising in 1745. Other versions of this fan (such as an example found in the collection of the National Museums of Scotland) are thought to have been distributed to ladies attending a victory ball given by Prince Charles Edward Stewart in 1745.
