There is a wealth of vocabulary associated with the Bobbin lace from Vila do Conde, some words being more technical and others whose forms have changed over time, often as a result of the diminutive forms that lacemakers themselves have given them.
There is always a motif and it is possible to distinguish a "field" or "bottom" where these motifs are inscribed. The “border”, depicted here, is the element surrounding the motifs, highlighting them. The border is also worked using a bobbin, but which does not require a pair.
