Zaragoza, Spain

Bottom of bowl made of Hispanic terra sigillata.
It has a graphite on the exterior wall that reads ATVLLUS. It is made with graphics of a certain regularity (+ 10 x 8 mm).

If it is considered that the graphite is not complete and that some letter has been lost in its initial part (unlikely), the name engraved can be identified with some Latin anthroponyms, such as Satullus, Statullus or Catullus, the latter one of which appears more frequently in other archaeological testimonies from the geographical area in question. If it is agreed that the graphite appears complete and that A is the initial spelling, the text could be identified with a Celtiberian or Iberian name, but in its Latinized expression, despite the problems derived from the adaptation of indigenous names to spelling. and Latin phonology. In this sense, it could be the case that Atullus was the Latinization of Atullo, which appears in line 51 of the text of the Áscoli bronze, written in this case as the nominative of an anthroponym ending in a long vowel. It could also correspond to the personal name Atulus or Atullus, whose plural genitive [a.tu.l.i.cu.m] appears in the Rubio Requena tesera.
