The record of the largest wingspan of the family Brahmaeidae was previously 16.2cm, and then ranged up to 16.3cm with a female individual collected in Qingcheng Mountain by the Insect Museum of West China. The body is green-brown. There are spherical patterns near the base of the forewings with 3-6 black spots on them. Its outer wings have 9 stripes with a water ripple shape. The larvae feed on the leaves of the Oleaceae plants and are of large size. So far, there have been only about 10 species of the family Brahmaeidae known in the world. They are found in Africa, southern Asia and tropical regions of eastern Asia. Because of its large size and special pattern, it is called "Alishan Sacred Butterfly" in Taiwan.
