A carved sitting bird on a flat, rectangular base (carved from one piece). The eyes & wing details are scrimshawed in brown. The feet are scrimshawed in black. The back edge of the base has 2 grooves cut onto its surface. The edge is rough & jagged. The figure is highly polished except for the bottom of base. Two parallel cracks (approx. 3 cm long) run down breast of bird. According to its appraiser's list, thought to be Siberian Yupik Eskimo of St. Lawrence Island. purchased in Barrow, Alaska.
