About the Work: Originally built in 1902, Castillo Marroquín is now an events center, but was once the home of a drug trafficker associated with the Medellín Cartel. A part of a series of photographs of “hybrid architecture,” the buildings in this series mix baroque, colonial and kitsch and are ironically classified as “contributions” to society by the artist. His works mimic a documentation style generally reserved for more serious structures, using a monumentality that befits the ego of the builder more than the integrity of the architecture.
