Described in the 18th century as a united, well-paved settlement with many noble houses, Celeirós, mentioned in documents dating back to the 12th century when it got its charter (1160), it is the most urban of the settlements in the Sabrosa Council, on the area facing the Pinhão River valley.
The centre, forming a rectangular square, is defined by the mother church dedicated to St. Peter, the long façade of a house in ruins dating back to the 16th century, and by other houses telling of the passage of time.
Densely occupied, Celeirós boasts a number of larger manor houses, such as the House of the Conde de Bolhão, aligned with other medium-and small-sized houses, some simpler in design. Their architecture is revealing of a broader social diversity when compared to other settlements in the region. With façades facing the roads, these houses bear carefully crafted granite frames and balanced entrances.
