The granting letters for ownership of territory issued by the shogun of the Edo bakufu was a significant letter for feudal lords at that time.
This letter was issued by the 3rd shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, with his signature to the feudal lord, Tachibana Muneshige. Feudal Lords who hold a fief yielding over 100,000 koku of rice received a letter with shogun’s signature, while the other feudal lords received a letter with red seal instead of signature.
