The pendant was attached to a massive chain of intricate weaving with an inlaid medallion in the central part.
Chains with medallions and pendants were famous Byzantine ornaments distributed in the Eastern Mediterranean. In the barbarian environment the jewelry imitated the part of the prestigious early Byzantine costume, for which necklaces with round or oval plates are typical.
