600 - 800 CE

National Museum of the History of Ukraine

National Museum of the History of Ukraine
Kyiv, Ukraine

This gold pendant has a triangular pyramid fixed on a ring with the top pointing downwards. The decorations are richly decorated with rows of granulation and hollow balls. On the side faces of the pyramids there are partitioned nests and cylindrical casts for inlay.
The prototype of such pendants were the earrings with a granulated pyramidal pendant common in the Mediterranean. They were known already in Roman times and used until the early Medieval Age.
