Changing-face head design

Sichuan Opera is world-renowned for its “changing face masks.” Similarly, there are face masks in northern Sichuan shadow puppetry. They are usually reserved for demons and deities, to represent personality changes in a character. During a performance, the shadow-play artist needs only to pull a linen string on the face mask to instantly transform an individual into a spirit, or a pretty girl into a raging demon.
