Chiasognathus grantii lives in high altitudes with temperatures of only a dozen degrees in Chile and Argentina. It is also known as Darwin's beetle, because Charles Darwin collected it during his second voyage on HMS Beagle.
The body of the males can reach 90 mm long, which is the longest among all the stag beetles in South America. Its appearance is strange due to the exaggerated legs and mandibles that look a little disproportionate to the body. Both males and females have a strong aggressiveness, needless to say between males, even females are easy to fight each other.
