Saddle cover

A saddle cover used in the romería (pilgramage) of San Benito Abad in the Cerro de Andévalo (Huelva), produced in red cotton corduroy with decoration on the four corners, repeating a design consisting of a central flower and on both sides curved branches with leaves and tendrils in the shape of a crown. These motifs were embroidered with flat satin stitching and embossed fill stitches --undefined and plumetis- in light blue thread and two tones of green, reinforced with the application of round, flat gold and silver sequins, in some cases crowned with transparent beads. The outside edge is finished with a fringe of tied bundles of untwisted threads in ochre rayon. Hanging from the points of each corner, a large wool tassel with a combination of red, white and orange ends. On the back, a lining of red cotton tafetta.
