The main sections for this coffeepot and tureen were "spun up" over a sectioned wooden form rotating on a lathe. Once the cast handles, legs, and spout were soldered on, the coffeepot was electroplated. While the processes of spinning and plating were used throughout the country, firms in southern New England exploited the techniques most of all. The town of Meriden, Connecticut, near Hartford, was especially prominent in the plating field as it was home to giant firms like Meriden Britannia Co.
